The Latino Theater Company became the new operators of the
Los Angeles
Theatre
Center
located in the Historic Core of Downtown L.A in January of 2006.
After over 20 years of exploring the U.S. Latino Experience
in bold, contemporary terms, the Latino Theater Company acknowledges and
embraces the New
Los Angeles.
A
Los Angeles
that is one of the most diverse cities in the world and our goal is to create a
world-class cultural arts center that reflects this rich diversity.
THE NEW LATC will
be a microcosm of the New
Los Angeles; a
destination center for those pursuing artistic excellence; a laboratory where
both tradition and innovation are honored and honed. The LATC theatre subscription series will
capture the creative vitality that comes from people telling their own stories
and digging deep into their own traditions to address important issues of our
day. The planned Conservatory will pass
these skills and experiences to young and emerging artists. Together the theatre, conservatory, museum,
café and store will create a space amidst the excitement of downtown
Los Angeles; a space
where the convergence of people, cultures and ideas give birth to our
future.
The three major programs of THE NEW LATC will be:
- A
World Stage Festival – the first of which begins on October 25th
and runs through December 22nd
- A
subscription theater season that will capture the vitality that comes from
people telling their own stories and digging deep into their own
traditions to address important issues of the day
- And a
summer conservatory for young people
THE NEW LATC is
committed to creating and producing passionate, truthful and professional
world-class theater with artists of all cultures by:
- Developing
and producing new plays and playwrights that examine, in bold contemporary
terms, their cultural experience in the
United States.
- Commissioning
new plays, translations and dramatic events that deal with cultural
convergences.
- Creating
a professional family of skilled artists with special emphasis on
developing their craft through workshops, rehearsals and performances.
- Giving
young and diverse directors, designers, writers, choreographers and
musicians opportunities to exercise their talents in collaboration with
other artists.
- Give
opportunities to young artists to hone their artistic skills in a cultural
and supportive environment.
- Creating
new audiences for the work of young and experimental artists of all
cultures.
